Our company's main activity is the design and formulation of custom blends, spice mixtures, and seasoning blends for the meat, poultry, vegetarian, bakery, and other sectors of the North American food industry.

Technical assistance is provided by highly trained and professional food industry experts. We have an on-site, up-to-date meat pilot plant, a food chemistry laboratory, a microbiology laboratory, and blending facilities to compliment the nature of our service in the industry. We assist all customers through courses offered in meat technology, food ingredients, food chemistry, and microbiology of spices.

Although our forte is in custom blending, we have expanded our services to include specialized ingredients such as textured vegetable proteins, vegan flavours, natural functional ingredients, and natural preservatives to mention a few. We also provide assistance and technical support in product development for every ingredient we sell.

 

Position Summary

This role is responsible for procuring all relevant materials necessary for day-to-day operations. You will be working very closely with the sales and R&D teams to provide procurement strategies for innovation and product development.  This is a friendly, highly motivated, and solution-oriented team of highly skilled professionals to contribute to the cost savings, growth, and development of the organization. This position reports to the Vice President of Operations and to Finance Controller.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Purchase raw materials and packaging materials required to meet production and customer needs
  • Develop, review, and maintain relationships with various suppliers and carriers
  • Negotiate strategic sourcing contracts in the best interest of the company
  • Manages and maintains a centralized system for all active contracts, tracking renewal dates, and key deliverables
  • Monitor inventory and ensure continuous supply for day-to-day operations
  • Review aged, obsolete and slow-moving inventory, and take required actions to minimize costs to the business
  • Minimize overall costs where possible
  • Ensure and maintain data accuracy across our ERP systems such as SAP
  • Resolve issues related to deliveries (e.g. pricing, quantities, contracts, etc.)
  • Identify and pursue cost reduction opportunities and drive continuous improvement
  • Perceptively sourcing new or unique ingredients and on demand
  • Work with all relevant departments and management and keep parties informed of the global supply chain and general market updates
  • Utilize SAP / technology to streamline processes and improve efficiency
  • Stay updated with the latest technology trends in procurement
  • Identifies potential risks in the procurement process and develops mitigation strategies
  • Ensure that all procurement activities are conducted in a manner that minimizes risk to the organization
  • Develop and update SOPs and resources to support consistent procurement practices

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Food industry background an asset
  • Education or certification in supply chain, purchasing, or materials management preferred
  • 3+ years relevant work experience
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, SAP/ERP software, etc.)
  • Proficient in creating Excel spreadsheets and analyzing data
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong team building skills while being able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks with changing priorities
