THE OPPORTUNITY
The Registered Nurse - Team Leader in the Emergency Department supports the Manager in the daily clinical and operational oversight of the Emergency Department. Using strong clinical judgment and leadership skills, the Team Leader ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centred care while supporting efficient patient flow in a dynamic environment.
This role provides real-time leadership by continuously assessing patient acuity, volumes, staffing, and operational pressures. The Team Leader proactively adjusts patient assignments, escalates concerns, and requests additional supports to maintain safe workloads and timely care delivery. The Team Leader actively participates in and promotes change management, quality improvement, and efficiency initiatives to enhance patient outcomes, flow performance, and staff engagement.
As a visible leader, the Team Leader fosters collaboration, accountability, and professionalism, while role-modelling GBGH’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:
- Registered Nurse with current registration in good standing with College of Nurses required
- Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing preferred
- Current BCLS certification required
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate
- Current Advanced Pediatric Life Support certificate
- Current Trauma Nursing Critical Care Core course or equivalent (or completion within 1st year of hire) preferred
- Canadian Triage & Acuity Scale certification required
- NVCI or equivalent
- Coronary Care – Level 1 and 2 preferred
- Critical Care certificate preferred
- Certified in phlebotomy starts
- Demonstrated competencies in arrhythmia interpretation
- Emergency or Critical Care certification an asset
- Mechanical Ventilation an asset
- Minimum five years current emergency/acute care related nursing
- Computerized documentation (Meditech Expanse) an asset
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, communication skills necessary to promote positive interdisciplinary team dynamics
- Demonstrated team approach with a professional attitude to both internal and external team members, including a good working knowledge of community resources
- Demonstrate positive customer service behaviours and commitment to patient-focussed care
- Demonstrated ability for critical thinking, effective problem-solving and conflict resolution
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in stressful situations
- Demonstrated initiative to participate in hospital activities
- Demonstrated reliability, dependability, and adaptability
- Demonstrated consistent punctuality and attendance record, maintaining a high level of reliability and commitment to performing duties with efficiency and effectiveness in previous roles
- Must be able to fulfill all physical requirements of the job, as per current Physical Demands Analysis

- As a partially designated French speaking organization, French verbal and written communication skills are considered an asset in this position

COMPENSATION

- Hourly rate of pay $44.36 - $61.80, three (3) weeks vacation to start

HOURS OF WORK
Permanent Full Time. Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the ONA collective agreement.
