ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Supervisor – Nutrition & Food Services, the Clerk Typist is responsible for coordinating and maintaining accurate client diet information within the food service management system while supporting safe meal service delivery. This role handles reception and clerical duties, serving as a key communication link between clinical units, dietitians, and food service staff. Key responsibilities include ensuring precision in diet orders and client data entry, recognizing that inaccuracies can lead to serious safety risks such as allergic reactions or adverse clinical outcomes and facilitating seamless information flow to promote patient safety and operational efficiency in Nutrition & Food Services.

WHAT YOU BRING
Education/Experience:
- Diploma in office administration or related program
- Clerical experience, preferably gained in a healthcare setting
- Background in nutrition or comparable relevant experience
Skills/Abilities:
- Exceptional attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in data entry and record management
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with competing priorities and deadlines
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify discrepancies and escalate appropriately
- Ability to understand and apply clinical diet terminology and dietary restrictions
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy under pressure with frequent interruptions
- Strong organizational skills, with ability to manage high volumes of information accurately and with minimal errors
- Demonstrates a high level of accountability and reliability
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to work as a team member as well as independently
- Ability to use independent judgment and maintain confidentiality of records, actions, and information
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to be flexible and follow direction from various program staff
- Ability to prioritize and organize day-to-day functions of the office to meet deadlines, noting the work is varied and often done for several different disciplines
- Demonstrates tact, good judgment, demonstrated ability to establish good interpersonal relationships
- Demonstrated regular attendance at work
Asset:
- Experience working with food service management software systems (ie. Computrition)
- Familiarity with therapeutic diets and/or IDDSI standards
Conditions of Employment:
- This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
- Able to meet job requirements, including extended sitting, standing, stair climbing, and similar physical tasks
