Description

The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment throughout the hospital facility to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted operations.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid Certificate of Qualification for Electrician – Construction and Maintenance, or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s License
  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift and carry objects of various weights
  • Experience in minor carpentry, painting, plumbing and mechanical repairs
  • A gas and/or oil certificate would be an asset
  • Physical capacity to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, finger, feel, climb, and balance on ladders and scaffolds
  • Good hearing ability to recognize sounds that indicate equipment malfunctioning, emergency sirens, paging, and warning devices
  • Colour vision to identify colour-coded wires
  • Numerical ability to compute arithmetic calculations in testing, installing, and estimating
  • Spatial perception to visualize equipment and layout or the relationship of parts from circuit diagrams or drawings
  • Form perception to recognize structural or mechanical defects in electrical equipment
  • Experienced with control circuitry, PLC’s
  • Experience with computer programs such as Windows, Excel, Word, i.e.: maintenance and Access
  • Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to handle parts and use hand tools, power tools and test equipment
  • Finger dexterity to pick up and install a variety of small parts
  • Ability to work rapidly under emergency conditions
  • Ability to handle a variety of changing duties resulting from the complexities of electrical apparatus and equipment
  • Adaptability to work in situations involving exposure to high voltage wiring, heights, confined spaces, moving parts, chemicals, odours, dust, adverse weather, and environmental conditions such as heat, humidity, and cold
  • Dependable, competent, and continued ability to carry out responsibilities
  • Must be physically capable of performing the essential duties of the position
  • Must have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of electrical codes and their application in a variety of facilities, building equipment, as well as experience in the installation of conduit and proper wiring methods. A thorough understanding of electronics in relation to the electrical trade is required
  • Must have the ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings to repair, modify, install, maintain, replace, and inspect building electrical services, equipment and associated electronic control systems and components. A knowledge of elementary algebra is required to apply electrical/electronic formulae
  • Must be willing and able to participate in standby schedule
  • Must have reliable attendance record
  • Four years of related experience in all phases of maintenance installations, modifications, inspections, and replacement of building electrical service, equipment (fixed & portable) and associated electrical component
  • Must have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of electrical codes and their application in a variety of facilities, building equipment including experience in the installation of conduit and proper wiring methods. Perform daily inspections of the hospital as per established list, reporting on the condition of heating, ventilating, and cooling equipment. Is responsible for suction, oxygen and nitrous oxide supply, humidity and temperature, motors, pumps, and fans, etc.
