Summary

The Tapered Drafter is responsible for developing accurate and detailed shop drawings for tapered insulation roofing systems based on project estimates, architectural plans, and project specifications. This role works closely with estimators, project managers, and internal stakeholders to ensure drawings are technically sound, complete, and ready for professional review and field installation.

Key Responsibilities

Drafting & Design

  • Prepare detailed CAD-based tapered insulation layouts and shop drawings for commercial roofing projects
  • Review and refine tapered insulation designs provided by estimators and project managers
  • Interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and drainage requirements to ensure accurate design development
  • Produce clear, accurate, and high-quality shop drawings including all relevant details required for approval and installation
  • Revise and update drawings based on internal feedback, professional review, or project changes

 

Coordination & Project Support

  • Collaborate with tapered estimators and project managers during the transition from estimation to shop drawing development
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve design discrepancies, missing information, or drawing-related issues
  • Manage and prioritize multiple shop drawing requests while ensuring deadlines and project timelines are met

 

Documentation & Quality

  • Ensure drawings comply with company standards, project specifications, and applicable construction requirements
  • Maintain organized project documentation and drawing records
  • Support continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates, and processes
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in drafting, estimating, or design within the roofing or construction industry
  • Minimum 1–2 years of drafting experience using AutoCAD or similar drafting software
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and construction details
  • Knowledge of commercial and industrial roofing systems is considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset
