BAAC Construction Inc.
Location: Head Office, South Calgary, Alberta · Full-time

About BAAC

BAAC Construction Inc. is a telecommunications construction company operating across North America, delivering telecommunications infrastructure and supporting civil work for the telecom and innovation sectors. We're looking for an HR Generalist to join our team at our South Calgary head office, primarily supporting our Canadian workforce while assisting with US HR documentation as needed.

About the Role

We're seeking a hands-on HR Generalist who can manage the full employee lifecycle while contributing to the development of our people policies and practices. This role is grounded in Canadian employment legislation and HR practices, with occasional support for US-side documentation and processes. This role blends day-to-day HR operations with policy work, employee relations, and culture-building initiatives, and requires close collaboration with both field and office management. You'll work directly with Project Managers and field leadership to support onboarding, safety orientation, and day-to-day HR needs across job sites, as well as with leadership across our Telecommunications and Innovation divisions.

Key Responsibilities

Talent & Recruitment

  • Manage the full-cycle recruitment process, including maintaining and leveraging our talent pool for current and future hiring needs
  • Screen, interview, and coordinate with hiring managers on selection decisions for both field and office roles
  • Support onboarding to ensure a smooth transition for new hires, working closely with field management on logistics and readiness

Onboarding, Safety & Orientation

  • Assist field management with onboarding new employees, coordinating closely with Project Managers to align on start dates, site assignments, and documentation
  • Set up and coordinate in-person orientation and safety orientation sessions for new hires
  • Ensure new employees are properly set up with required safety training, certifications, and equipment prior to site deployment
  • Act as a liaison between HR, field management, and the safety team to keep onboarding and safety requirements aligned

Employee & Labour Relations

  • Serve as a point of contact for employee relations matters, providing guidance and resolution support to employees and managers
  • Support conflict resolution and day-to-day performance management processes
  • Manage disciplinary processes, including documentation, progressive discipline, and coaching, in accordance with Canadian labour standards
  • Coordinate and assist with terminations and offboarding, including preparing termination documentation, calculating entitlements, conducting exit interviews, and ensuring compliance with applicable employment standards
  • Ensure offboarding processes are handled consistently and respectfully, including return of company property, system access removal, and final pay processing
  • Foster a positive, respectful workplace culture across field and office teams

HRIS & Administration

  • Maintain accurate employee records and workflows in BambooHR, including processing terminations and offboarding within the system
  • Administer employee benefits, including enrollment, changes, and ongoing employee questions
  • Generate HR reports and metrics to support workforce planning
  • Administer leave tracking and other HR programs within the system

Policy & Compliance

  • Develop, update, and maintain HR policies with a primary focus on compliance with Canadian federal and provincial (Alberta) employment legislation (e.g., Alberta Employment Standards Code, Alberta Human Rights Act, OH&S)
  • Assist with US HR documentation and compliance matters as required, escalating or coordinating with legal/external support where appropriate
  • Ensure policies are clearly communicated and consistently applied across field and office teams
  • Stay current on changes to Canadian and Alberta employment law and recommend policy updates accordingly, including on termination and disciplinary practices

Engagement & Committees

  • Lead and organize the internal event committee, coordinating members, meeting cadence, and planning activities
  • Plan and execute employee engagement events and initiatives from concept through delivery
  • Champion initiatives that strengthen morale, recognition, and workplace culture across field and office teams
  • Act as the main point of contact for event committee logistics, budgeting, and scheduling

General HR Support

  • Work closely with management in both the field and the office to ensure HR support is responsive and aligned with operational needs
  • Coordinate with Project Managers on staffing needs, transfers, and site-related HR matters
  • Provide guidance to managers on HR best practices, including performance and disciplinary matters
  • Assist with performance review cycles and related documentation
  • Support other HR projects and initiatives as needed

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in an HR Generalist or similar role, with a strong foundation in Canadian employment legislation (Alberta experience an asset)
  • Working knowledge of BambooHR or similar HRIS platforms
  • Experience managing a talent pool/pipeline for recruitment
  • Experience coordinating onboarding and safety orientation, ideally in a construction, industrial, or field-based environment
  • Direct experience handling disciplinary processes, terminations, and offboarding in compliance with Canadian employment standards
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining HR policies within a Canadian legal framework
  • Exposure to or familiarity with US employment documentation is an asset, but not a requirement — support needs are occasional and can be learned on the job
  • Experience supporting employee relations matters with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment
  • Comfortable working closely with Project Managers and field leadership, not just office-based teams
  • Experience organizing or leading employee engagement committees or events is a strong asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust across all levels of the organization, including field crews and site teams
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate logistics across sites in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in telecommunications, utility construction, or civil construction is a strong asset
  • HR certification (CHRP is preferred; PHR/SHRM-CP or equivalent also considered) is an asset
  • Must be based in or willing to work from our South Calgary head office

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation
  • Benefits — health, dental, long-term disability
  • Opportunity to shape HR policy and practice at a growing company
  • A collaborative, cross-border team environment working across field and office
