Long-Haul Truck Driver - Aerospace Industry

Wage: $38.50 per hour (represents average pay based upon mileage rates and miles driven)

Employment: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Approximately 35–40 hours per week

Schedule: Variable schedule, including extended driving periods, weekends and overnight travel as required by operational need

We are an asset-based specialty ground transportation company based in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Our company operates throughout Canada and the continental United States and specializes in the transportation and handling of high-value, sensitive and oversized cargo.

Our primary cargo includes aircraft engines, helicopters, oversized machinery, mill rolls and other specialized industrial equipment. The company has developed specialized equipment, procedures and personnel to serve clients in the aerospace, helicopter and industrial sectors.

We are seeking experienced Long Haul Team Truck Drivers to join our professional fleet and operate on long-distance routes throughout Canada and the United States.


Responsibilities

  • Operate tractor-trailer combinations safely and efficiently on long-haul routes throughout Canada and the United States.
  • Transport high-value, oversized and specialized equipment, including aerospace components, aircraft engines, helicopters, machinery and industrial equipment.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections of tractors, trailers and related equipment.
  • Inspect and monitor tires, brakes, lights, securement equipment and other safety-critical components and report defects promptly.
  • Assist with and monitor the loading, unloading and securement of high-value and oversized cargo to ensure that loads are properly positioned and secured for transportation.
  • Follow cargo-specific handling and securement procedures and company safety protocols.
  • Plan routes and coordinate trip logistics in accordance with dispatch instructions, delivery schedules, border-crossing requirements and applicable transportation regulations.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, trip records, fuel records, cargo documentation and other required transportation records.
  • Communicate regularly with dispatchers, customers and company management regarding trip progress, delivery status, delays, route conditions and other operational matters.
  • Maintain continuous awareness of cargo security and take appropriate measures to protect high-value cargo, equipment and company property during transportation.
  • Operate vehicles in accordance with applicable federal, provincial/state and U.S. transportation, hours-of-service and safety requirements.
  • Monitor vehicle condition throughout each trip and report mechanical, safety or operational concerns immediately.
  • Maintain a clean and professional work environment and comply with IMT's policies, procedures and safety standards.
  • Participate in required safety meetings, training and operational meetings.
  • Perform other transportation-related duties reasonably assigned by the Transportation Manager or Supervisor.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Valid Class 1 driver's licence or equivalent commercial driver's licence with required air-brake qualification.
  • Valid Canadian passport.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional, accident-free driving experience.
  • Experience handling and transporting machinery, oversized equipment or other high-value cargo is required/preferred based on the specific assignment.
  • Experience with high-value asset or specialized cargo handling is strongly preferred.
  • Clean driver's abstract.
  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Strong communication skills sufficient for safe transportation operations, including reading transportation documents, communicating with dispatchers and customers, navigating routes and following safety procedures.
  • Ability to work as part of a two-driver team on extended long-haul assignments.
  • Ability to safely assist with cargo loading, unloading and securement.
  • Strong safety awareness, reliability, professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout Canada and the United States.
  • Ability to comply with applicable Canadian and United States transportation and hours-of-service requirements.
  • Experience with cross-border transportation is an asset.
  • Additional training related to cargo securement, specialized transportation or company procedures will be provided as required.

 

Wage and Benefits

  • $38.50 per hour (represents average pay based upon mileage rates and miles driven)
  • Approximately 35–40 hours per week, with additional hours/overtime as required and compensated in accordance with applicable employment standards.
  • Two weeks of paid vacation annually, or more where required by applicable employment standards.
