Position Summary
BAAC Construction Inc. is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to support the ongoing maintenance and administration of our Health & Safety Management System and COR program.
This is primarily an office-based safety administration and coordination role, with some field involvement to support the HSE Manager, supervisors and project teams.
The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining organized and audit-ready safety systems, supporting COR requirements, coordinating project-specific safety documentation and helping ensure BAAC's health and safety program continues to evolve alongside the company's operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support ongoing COR maintenance, audit preparation and internal audit activities
- Maintain organized, audit-ready safety records and supporting documentation
- Review safety documentation for completeness, quality and compliance
- Assist with updating policies, procedures, Safe Work Practices and Safe Operating Procedures
- Track corrective actions, training requirements, inspections and compliance items
- Assist with incident and near-miss investigations, documentation and follow-up
- Support preparation of safety reports, statistics and management information
- Assist the HSE Manager with safety planning, initiatives and continuous improvement activities
- Assist with planning and facilitating company safety meetings and Health & Safety Committee activities
- Support the HSE Manager with field staff training, coaching and mentoring
- Conduct periodic site visits and inspections in support of the HSE Manager
- Assist with field verification of FLRAs, JHAs, hazard controls and safety documentation
- Support supervisors and workers in understanding company safety requirements
- Assist with client, regulatory and third-party audit requirements
- Help identify safety trends, documentation gaps and opportunities for improvement
- Communicate with client safety contacts to coordinate pre-job planning, Emergency Response Plans, JHAs and project-specific site safety plans
Qualifications
- Experience in construction, telecommunications, industrial or a related safety environment
- Experience with COR, safety program administration or audit preparation
- NHSA or similar safety administration designation would be considered an asset
- Strong organizational, documentation and communication skills
- Principles of Health & Safety Management (PHSM)
- Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE)
- Alberta OHS Legislation Awareness (LEG)
- Auditor Training Program (ATP)
- Comfortable working with both office and field personnel
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel periodically to project locations

This position is well suited to someone who enjoys the systems, auditing and coordination side of safety while still maintaining periodic involvement with employees in the field. The successful candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of documentation, following through on compliance requirements and contributing to the continued development of BAAC's safety culture as the company grows.
