We are a family owned and operated steel fabrication, ASME welding and process piping company in Guelph, Ontario, growing to approximately 65 employees.

We are looking for an experienced, practical and people-focused Human Resources Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day HR function and help us build a strong, productive and positive workplace.

About the Role

As our Human Resources Manager, you will be responsible for the full range of HR activities within the company. You will work closely with the Sr. HR manager while also being a trusted resource for our employees.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the day-to-day HR function for approximately 60 employees
  • Recruiting, interviewing and onboarding new employees
  • Developing and maintaining job descriptions and employment documentation
  • Managing employee records and HR policies
  • Supporting supervisors and managers with employee relations and performance issues
  • Managing attendance, vacation and leave administration
  • Coordinating employee performance reviews
  • Assisting with payroll and employee benefit administration
  • Ensuring compliance with Ontario employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Supporting workplace health and safety initiatives
  • Managing WSIB-related administration and claims
  • Assisting with training, orientation and employee development
  • Helping develop and maintain company policies, procedures and
  • employee handbook
  • Addressing employee concerns fairly, professionally and confidentially
  • Assisting management with disciplinary processes and performance improvement
  • Helping build a strong company culture based on respect, accountability and teamwork
  • Identifying opportunities to improve employee retention, productivity and morale

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3–5+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing, fabrication, construction or industrial environment
  • A practical, common-sense approach to HR
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation
  • Hands on training of legislative policies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work comfortably with both management and shop-floor employees
  • Strong organizational skills, and attention to detail and record keeping
  • Good judgment and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters
  • Experience with recruitment and employee relations
  • The confidence to deal with difficult situations when necessary
  • Strong computer skills and experience with HR/payroll systems
  • CHRP/CHRL designation or working toward one would be an asset
